Change does not update dataset

I have a TIWCGJQComboBoxEx connect by DataLink to a clientdataset

It reflects the valid correctly. But after changing the value of the combobox, the dataset's fieldvalue is not changed.

Just noticed that while dataset still in edit mode the combo shows the value when changed, dataset field reflects the old value, but after post the new value.

i also noticed even this is not always true

I have a combo connected to a required field, when selecting a value and posting the record i still get error on required field

I just debugged the code.

Indead it looks like the dataset is only updated on a post.
Is this by design?
