Strange characters coming from pdf

I have some jqmemoEx fields (DB varchar(20000)) where the users copies text from a pdf into the memo.
After saving the records cannot be openend anymore
Investigation finds out there are some charachters like stx in the text.
How cab i get rid if these , but also why does it not open the form anymore with that record in a memo?
